Search engine like Google work on the bases of sorting through millions of pages that match the keywords search for, and then return the most relevant results first. So how does Google determine the most relevant results? One of the ways is the algorithm that matches the keywords searched for to the quality and frequency of the content of your site. In other words, the content of your site is one of the basic criteria in search engine ranking. There are of course additional criteria that I will cover in upcoming posts, but let’s start with the basics of good content.
Review your site content to make sure the information is fresh and relevant to what potential customer are searching for. Search engines are ranking sites by looking for high quality content that people want to read. For example, Google began to reward sites that have fresh information. If you maintain a monthly or weekly schedule to post new information to your website or blog related to your business, and accompanied by posting to social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Google+, and LinkedIn, that will improve your website ranking and will also connect you with millions of potential customers through social media.
To increase traffic to your site you need to make your pages visible to the search engines. Pages with the search terms appearing in the HTML title tag are often assumed to be more relevant than others to the subject. Search keywords should appear near the top of a web page, such as in the headline or in the first few paragraphs of text. Search engines assume that any page relevant to the topic will mention those words in the beginning of the content. Which just goes to prove that content is everything. A search engine will analyze how often keywords appear in relation to other words in a webpage, so keywords frequency is another factor in how search engines determine relevancy of your site for specific keywords. Those with a higher frequency are often deemed more relevant than other webpages. But be careful not to stuff too many keywords to the point where it is unnatural, because search engines could penalize your ranking.
